I call BS on this 👇

Person working on a laptop with a cup of tea.

Imagine this Reader.

You walk into your fav store.

(mine's Kikki K...)

You grab a cute planner.

Maybe a sparkly pen.

Some stickers.

You check out and leave the store.

I'm pretty certain that as you get home and unpack your goodies, not once are you thinking...

Hmm, I hope I get an email from (Kikki K) sharing a quick tip or strategy on how to use my planner before they try to sell me something again.

So why is it that we expect coaches & course creators to do just that?

Here's what tends to happen instead...

You buy a course from a coach.

The next day, you get their welcome sequence.

Then a few days later, they send you a sales email.

And you scream, Can I just BREATHE for a sec? I haven't even started on the thing I just bought!

But does that happen when you get an email from Apple about the next iPhone release?

They're not spending months nurturing you before they sell you their next product.

Nor is any other retailer, for that matter.

They could send us daily emails with discounts, sales promo's, BOGO offers, and we'd either buy from them or simply delete the email.

Not a scream or deep breath in sight.😜

We certainly don't storm into their store screaming "UNSUBSCRIBE ME" before leaving a strongly worded review about how personally attacked we felt about their Black Friday Sales emails... 🤔

So why do we expect something different from coaches, course creators, and service-based businesses?

It's a bit of a double standard, don't ya think?

You wouldn't demand that your hairstylist cut your hair for free just to PROVE their worth before you book an appointment with them, would you?

Similarly, you wouldn't go to a cafe, order a meal, pay for it, then call your credit card company to dispute the charge 3 months later, DEMANDING a full refund because you didn't eat half of your meal, and now you've realized that it wasn't worth what you paid for it.

Yet we creative entrepreneurs often have to deal with emails like:

"Hey, I bought your course last year but haven't actually used it. Can I get my money back?"

❌ No. No, you cannot.

For the same reason you can't write a terrible review and complain that "it wasn't for me" after you buy a book and don't gel with the author's viewpoints.

No one walks into their grocery store, loads up a basket full of products, and tells the cashier, "I'd love to buy this, but money is tight. Can you just give it to me for free?"

Let's stop this madness.

These double standards are hurting our businesses.

So here's the thing...

You don't need to do all of this "giving stuff away for free" or "nurturing before you sell" because no one else does.

And no one is making you do that!

Apple, Nike, your fav retailer aren't staying up at night worrying about what their customers think about their emails... "Oh gosh, I wonder if that last email was too salesy?"

Not even on their radar.

So why should running your business be any different?

Here's the reframe: you get to make money in your business because you HELP people with your offers. You're not trying to scam someone.

And hiding what you offer doesn't really help anyone either.

Because here's the thing... business is business.

You can't make money unless people KNOW what you have to offer.

This is why asking for the sale every day is part of my Daily Sales Ecosystem.

✅ You should be paid for your work.

You are not responsible for what your clients do with their purchases...

In the same vein that you wouldn't turn around and blame Nike because you're not fit (just because you bought sneakers from them doesn't make you go to the gym. Sames goes for a course or coaching package).

So stop the double standards.

If you've got something to sell, that you know will help your audience, sell it.

What do you think?

Have you experienced any of these scenarios?

Or what’s the most ridiculous expectation someone has ever put on you as a coach or course creator?

Hit reply and tell me your thoughts—I respond to every email.

Take care

Lise xoxo
